6. Stress If the thought of cutting back on chocolate stresses you out, though, please relax! Experts say stress can lead to acne by signalling the release of cortisol, a hormone that tells your body to produce more pore-clogging oil.

7. High Testosterone or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Health issues with a hormonal component, such as high testosterone levels or polycystic ovarian syndrome, are often-overlooked causes of acne but can definitely play a factor.

So what can you do to treat your Adult Acne?

The best thing to do is book a free skin care consultation with one of our highly trained therapists so they can assess your skin and design a skin care program to meet your skins needs as everyone skin isn’t the same.  We also offer a revolutionary LED light therapy treatment that uses Blue LED light to kill the p. acne bacteria without any adverse effects to your skin.

Need some top tips on dealing with it now– and the products to stock up on.

- Whatever you do, don’t pick! Don’t pick or squeeze spots; this can spread the bacteria and lead to scarring. It also causes reoccurring spots.

- Try to limit the amount of times you touch your face. Bacteria from your hands will only make it worse.

- Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated.

- Take an Omega complex like UDO oil as it acts a natural anti inflammatory (and inflammation plays a role in acne)  and balances hormone production which makes you skin less oily.

-Another important supplements to take Zinc as it can decrease oil production in the skin and can protect against bacterial infections and inflammation.

- Avoid harsh exfoliating washes as these only irritate the skin and cause further breakouts you are better off with an enzymatic peel that naturally dissolves the top layer of dead skin cells like out Pumpkin enzyme peel.

- Cleanse the skin twice a day with a mild cleanser. Our Herbal foam cleanser is perfect to gently clean and refresh the skin.

- If your acne is wide spread you can use an all over treatment mask once a week for 20 minutes , like our Controlling mask with tea tree oil which visibly improves the appearance of clogged pores and controls inflammation. If your acne is only localised you can apply it over the spot and leave it over night.

- Finally use a light weight moisturiser that won’t clog the pores. If your acne is quite severe we would recommend our Controlling cream as it helps clear existing acne blemishes and control over productive oil glands.  If its mild acne then Gingko moist is light yet hydrating and has an aha that will clear up any old acne scars.
