IPL treatments are performed using a handheld device that delivers a broad spectrum of light onto the skin’s surface. The wavelengths of light penetrate deep into the skin tissue to stimulate the cells beneath the skin’s surface, and triggers the body’s response to eliminates injured tissues and dead skin cells.

IPL treatments are typically administered in a series of 4-6 treatments performed at intervals of a minimum of 2 weeks. Spreading the treatment over this period provides a gradual improvement of the skin, minimal amount of adverse effects and preserves the important “no downtime” feature of the program.

IPL skin rejuvenation is a non-invasive treatment that provides an effective way to correct and treat skin damage without disruption of the skin’s surface, producing younger and healthier looking skin. It can be tailored to your individual condition and skin type, offering you a personalised and targeted treatment plan.

How does IPL Skin rejuvenation stimulate collagen?

The light bypasses the outer layer of skin (the epidermis) and gently heats the cells in the deeper layer of skin (dermis). These cells, called fibroblasts, start to produce more collagen, which improves texture and fine wrinkles.

How is it different from Laser?

IPL technology is based on the same principle as laser but emits a broad spectrum of pulsed light to reach several layers of the skin simultaneously, improving the texture, quality, colour and health of your skin. It can treat multiple conditions simultaneously; including broken veins and capillaries, redness of the skin, age spots, and pigmentation.

Will I see results after one treatment?

Even after just one treatment your skin will look much plumper. Most people need a course of 4-6 about 2 weeks apart. You can see some improvement with each treatment, but it's common for your response to be slightly different to each treatment. The more sun damage or redness you have, the more likely you are to need a full six treatments. Some cases of severe redness or brown spots require more than 5 treatments. Expect to see gradual clearing over time.

What happens during the treatment?

The duration of the treatment is an hour. Your face is cleansed and toned and skin is assessed. A cold gel is the applied to the face and you are given protective eyewear to put on before the IPL begins. During the treatment our highly trained therapist gently applies the smooth, glass
surface of the IPL hand piece to the skin. Light is delivered to the
skin surface in precise pulses that are virtually pain-free you may feel a slight sting like being tapped with a rubber band. Once the whole face is treated the gel is removed and a hydration mask is applied. Occasionally some signs of treatment, such as redness, can last for
one or two hours. . Results from a full series of treatments usually last for a year or more.

Is there anyone IPL isn’t suitable for ?

Clients with:

Recent sunburn
Recent sun exposure or sun bed
Fake tan on the treatment area
Pregnancy
History of seizures
Severe dermatitis or eczema (within the treatment area)
Active infections
Roaccutane (oral acne medication) use in the last 6 months
Herpes 1or 2 (within the treatment area) If you have a history of herpes close to the area being treated, it is recommended that you take antiviral medication before the treatment.
Very dark skin
Use of Photo sensitising medications
If put on a course of antibiotics, please contact the clinic before treatment

Do I have to stay out of the sun?

It is important to protect your skin from direct sun exposure over the series of your treatments and it is highly recommended to use an spf30 broad spectrum sun block. Sun beds and sun bathing are to be avoided. Photo rejuvenation treatments can be carried out all year round as long as you are not planning to be in full sun exposure immediately following a treatment.

What should I do after the treatment?

Hot showers, hot baths and saunas are to be avoided for 24 hours. Also anything that generates heat in the skin should as exercise, cooking over a high heat, etc.
If the skin is broken or a blister appears keep the area lubricated to prevent crusting or scabbing of tissue and contact the clinic.
Cold packs or our Dr Schwab Seaweed mask may be used to ease temporary discomfort.
Prolonged sun exposure is to be avoided for 4 weeks before treatment and then for the following 4 weeks. A total sun block should be applied. If further treatment is needed a commitment to stay out of the sun is necessary. If there is direct sun exposure there are certain complications that may occur that should be discussed fully.
A good skin care regime as discussed with your therapist is necessary between treatments this will also greater the effects of the treatment.
